Aaron Taylor - Former Notre Dame OLWe had Aaron Taylor on the UHND podcast last night and talked with him about what he sees out of the Irish so far and what his expectations are for Notre Dame this year.

Head over to the Podcast page to listen to what Aaron had to say.  While you are over there check out some of the other interviews we’ve done since we started the podcast back up earlier this summer.  We’ve had on Michael Stonebreaker, Wes Pritchet, Rocket Ismail, Vagas Ferguson, George Streeter, Reggie Brooks, and Lee Becton so far and hope to have many more former Irish greats in the future.

Our podcast is still a work in progress, but we’re working on improving it each week.  Let us know what you think of the podcast so far in the comments here or feel free to comment on the individual podcasts you listen to!

On this week’s podcast, Jeff and I will interview former Notre Dame linebacker Michael Stonebreaker. Not only did Stonebreaker have arguably one of the best names ever for a linebacker, he was an absolute holy terror on the football field for a couple of very good defenses under Lou Holtz. We’ll be talking to him about what his is currently doing, his playing days at Notre Dame, and what he thinks of the current state of the Irish.

If you have any questions you’d like us to ask, please post them in comments below or email them to (podcast @ uhnd.com) and we will try to work them in.

This week’s show will air live at 9 PM ET Wednesday, July 9 and will also be available via download and through i-Tunes shortly afterwards.

In case you missed last week’s show, head over to the podcast page (you can also find the RSS feed and i-Tunes information for the show) and check out the interview we had with former Notre Dame running back Lee Becton.

As you all know, we aired the podcast every Wednesday live at 10pm (ET), 7pm (PT). Because of scheduling, this week’s show will air tonight and we have decided to start it an hour early to enable our east coast listeners a chance to listen without staying up too late.

So tune in live, tonight at 9pm (ET), 6pm (PT) for the podcast. Frank and I will discuss a short Air Force recap, a Duke preview and some interesting news that has yielded itself this week, including the thoughts of former Irish player, Bob Kuechenberg and why he dislikes Charlie Weis so much.

You can also throw your questions at us in the chat room live, so be sure to join in the fun.

here-come-the-irish.jpgThis year’s edition of Here Come the Irish, the best Notre Dame pre-season magazine around, is now available for purchase through Amazon.com or directly from publisher Maple Street Press.  Yours truly was lucky enough to be asked to contribute to the magazine again this year and I gladly accepted.  My article is an in depth look at Brady Quinn’s Draft free fall and a look at how his future NFL success, or lack there of, could affect Notre Dame in the future.  Some of the other articles include:

  • A profile of super-recruit Jimmy Clausen and his anticipated impact in his time in South Bend, both on and off the field.
  • The 2007 schedule is also evaluated in detail, including some potential problem games and they may not be the obvious ones.
  • A review of Weis’s first two offenses is included, drawing out the differences in his first two seasons as Notre Dame’s coach and what they may mean for 2007.
  • The talent level at Notre Dame, and how Weis finally has the team playing to its level of talent is examined in detail too.
  • A look back at Irish players and seasons of yesteryear, including a sit down interview with 1947 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Lujack as well as a piece on Angelo Bertilli.

A couple of the guys from ND Nation and Blue Gray Sky also contributed to this magazine.  It’s easily the most in depth season preview covering Notre Dame and definitely worth a read.

About the Lack of Updates Lately…

You may have noticed there’s been a lack of updates on the blog and main site lately - in fact my previous post on Clausen was my first post in a week.  There is a perfectly good explanation for this… namely, the NCAA Tournament started last week and I tend to be a tournament junky and watch every game that is one.  Add into the mix an all day pub crawl on St. Patrick’s Day, and well, you get the drift there.

Anyway, good news is that I’ll be back to updating frequently - especially with Spring football starting up tomorrow.  I will try to make as many news/notes type posts as I can between now and the Spring game and Spanning the Dome should be back in full force as well.

On the main site we will have plenty of opinion and analysis articles throughout the course of Spring as well.

Hey guys, we created a group over on the Yahoo Tournament Challenge for all of our readers and board members and invite you all to join. The winner of the pool will get a $100 gift certificate redeemable at the UHND Store which our merchandise partners, Football Fanatics.com, have generously donated for us.

Registration is free. Our only requirement is that you sign up with your board user name so everyone can keep track of the standings easily. Once the tournament is over, we will contact the winner – which will also be easier if your bracket name is your board user name – to let you know how to redeem your prize. We will use the email address associated with your board name to contact you.

Use the following information to sign up:

Note, you will not be limited to just Notre Dame merchandise with the gift certificate as apparel for all major professional teams and most college teams is available through the Football Fanatics powered UHND store.

Kyle and I with both be submitting our picks as well, but should either of us finish first (which is highly unlikely for me) whoever finishes second will get the gift certificate. And in the very, very unlikely scenario that Kyle and I finish first AND second, third place will take home the prize.

This should be a fun way for all of us to follow the tournament this year and winning a $100 gift certificate is certainly worth taking five minutes to fill out a bracket.
