Notre Dame Football Gets Prime Time Kickoff at BYU on ABC

Notre Dame’s October 17 game at BYU will start at 7:30 p.m. ET (5:30 p.m. MT) and air nationally on ABC from LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo. The networks set the time Monday as part of a larger batch of announcements for that Saturday.

With BYU as the host, the slot came through the Big 12’s deal with ESPN rather than NBC. ESPN usually saves its ABC night game for an SEC heavyweight, and it went outside that conference for this one.

Both teams still have a game to win before this becomes the top 10 matchup it’s shaping up to be. The No. 3 Irish are 5-0 and have won 15 straight after a 37-26 win at North Carolina on Saturday. Stanford visits Notre Dame Stadium this weekend for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff on NBC. BYU rose to No. 8 in the AP poll after a low-scoring 17-10 win at TCU kept the Cougars perfect at 4-0, and Iowa State comes to Provo on Friday night.

Provo has never hosted a game between two top 10 teams, so wins by both this weekend would give LaVell Edwards Stadium its first. There has also been talk of College GameDay setting up in Provo that morning.

Provo will be the third 7:30 p.m. start of the year for the Irish, after the opener against Wisconsin at Lambeau Field and the Michigan State game at Notre Dame Stadium.

The Irish last visited Provo for the 2004 opener and left with a 20-17 loss. BYU has beaten Notre Dame only one other time, and the Irish lead the series 7-2. The most recent meeting was a 28-20 Notre Dame win in the 2022 Shamrock Series in Las Vegas.

The November 28 trip to Syracuse is now the only game on the Irish schedule still waiting on a kickoff time.
