Notre Dame Adds Preferred Walk-on to ’09 Class
Notre Dame added Tom Freeman to the class of 2009 as a preferred walk-on. Freeman is a 6’3″, 270 offensive guard who received a 3-star rating from both Scout and Rivals. According to his profiles on both sites, he held scholarship offers from Northwestern, Kansas State, Ball State, Duke, Harvard, and South Florida. Instead, he choose to attend Notre Dame as a preferred walk-on in 2009.
Freeman’s father, Tom, was an offensive lineman for the Irish from 1983-87. He also attended the same high school, Rockhurst HS, as former Notre Dame wide receiver DJ Hord.
He will join Chris Watt, Alex Bullard, and Zach Martin on the Irish offensive line in this year’s class.
Preferred walk-ons are guaranteed roster spots, but do not have their tuition and room/board paid in full like scholarship players do. Nick Montana is currently a preferred walk-on for the Irish as well.

Small issue: One can’t have a scholarship offer from Harvard as the Ivy Leagues don’t offer athletic scholarships but do provide financial aid grants.
i wish this guy the best of luck. sounds like he could be a sleeper. on another note. when is the front page gonna get updated? i still see marlon pollard as a commit.
I hope this guy ends up earning a scholarship and starts. These are the character guys you want.
Kudos, and need more linemen on both sides of the ball.
Welcome Tom! Now go out there and earn that scholarship.
