Jaden Greathouse Is Healthy Again, and Notre Dame’s Receiver Room Changes With Him
With Greathouse back for a full camp, Notre Dame gets a proven veteran, added leadership, and a different outlook in the receiver room.
Jaden Greathouse walked into fall camp healthy, and the first thing he wanted to talk about was his body holding up. For a senior receiver who lost most of last season to injury, that is the entire story of his August, and it changes what Notre Dame’s receiver room can look like in September.
“I’m just happy to be back. I’m happy to be able to trust my body, be able to go out here every single day and just work as hard as I can, finally be able to be back out here playing with all my teammates and stuff, just trying to, you know, not take anything for granted,” Greathouse said Sunday.
Greathouse is unfortunately no stranger to missing time during his time at Notre Dame. Greathouse caught 4 passes for 73 yards in 2025, a season that never got going, after posting 42 catches for 592 yards and 4 touchdowns in 2024 and finishing that year with a 105-yard, one-touchdown game against Penn State and a 128-yard, two-touchdown game against Ohio State in the playoff. If Greathouse can stay healthy this year, it raises the floor for a room that is replacing Malachi Fields and Will Pauling.
A Proven Option Back in the Mix
Mike Brown, in year three coaching the position at Notre Dame, framed the group’s central task around the quarterback.
“Yeah, I’m really excited about the group. It’s a really talented group, a lot of competition in the room. Really pleased with their effort. Got to continue to learn, you know, a lot of new guys in the room, a lot of new faces, so just continuing to get comfortable with CJ and the young quarterbacks and, you know, getting them on the same page and just sharpening up the details,” Brown said.
Year Two With CJ Carr
CJ Carr threw for 2,741 yards, 24 touchdowns and 6 interceptions on 195-of-293 passing as a first-year starter, and Greathouse is now in his second year working with him.
“Yeah, I think it’s the chemistry. Obviously, you know, last season was his first season and you’re going to get smarter as you keep going. And you can definitely see that throughout practice, the way that he leads the team, the way that he leads the offense. I definitely think he’s taken a step up, and so that means that our chemistry is going to be even stronger and all those things,” Greathouse said.
Greathouse’s first year with Carr never fully got off the ground as nagging injuries slowed him just as they did in 2023 after Greathouse’s hot start to his collegiate career.
With the injuries hopefully in the rearview, asked where his own game has grown, Greathouse pointed at the separation piece.
“I think the explosion and quick twitch, and just constantly getting open, something I pride myself in every single day. Something that I’m making sure I’m taking care of each and every single day, and just find different ways in practice to push myself and challenge myself and make the whole offense better,” he said.
Seven New Faces in the Room
“Yeah, it’s been a lot of growth. Again, just from a learning standpoint, right? Everything was new for seven of the guys in the room, you know, seven of those guys were brand new to the program. And so, you know, them learning the offense, them getting comfortable in the offense, getting reps throughout the summer and, you know, obviously through spring ball and all of that, has given us a really good chance of starting fast, which is something that obviously our focus is on as an offense and then ultimately as a team,” Brown said.
Brown has watched both veterans, Greathouse and Faison, take that on.
“It’s been great to have Jordan back in the room, you know, for a full year for the first time. And then, you know, I think Jaden has done a great job of just leading some of the young guys. So it’s really, really fun. It’s good to go into year three. They understand me, they understand my temperament, and they pass that message along to the young guys, so it makes it a lot easier,” Brown said.
Greathouse’s New Role
Greathouse described the leadership role he’s assumed this year.
“I think what it takes to be a leader and to, you know, rally the guys in the room and make sure that, you know, I’m leading by example so that they can follow and follow in a positive direction is something I’ve really been challenging myself with and, yeah, we’re going to keep going,” he said.
He also said the emphasis has shifted with his standing in the room.
“I definitely think it’s a bigger emphasis now to try to pass that mentality onto the younger guys, make sure that they’re upholding the standard that, you know, a lot of those older guys have set,” Greathouse said.
If Greathouse can stay on the field and continue leading by example in 2026, Notre Dame’s wide receiver room looks different. He’s proven what he can do in big spots against elite opponents. He hasn’t yet proven he can deliver that level of production consistently over the course of a season. If he he can do that in 2026, Notre Dame’s passing attack will look different than it did a year ago.
