How to Watch Notre Dame Football vs. Wisconsin: Time, TV, Stream, and Odds

Two hundred and seventy-three days after the committee ranked Notre Dame 11th and made the Irish the first team out, they finally get to play somebody. Sunday night, Lambeau Field, national television, No. 4 in the country, and a Wisconsin team that scored fewer points last fall than almost anyone in the sport. Weather in Green Bay

The Irish and Badgers are going to get ideal confditions for an early September matchup tonight. Green Bay is clear and dry Sunday with a daytime high near 78, and temperatures should settle into the 60s by kickoff and drift toward the mid-50s late. Perfect football weather at the most famous cold-weather venue in America, which is somehow the most Notre Dame thing about this whole arrangement.

Why this one is worth your Sunday night

The Shamrock Series has taken the Irish to Yankee Stadium, to Fenway, to the Alamodome. None of those had the specific resonance of this one. Curly Lambeau went to Notre Dame. He played for Knute Rockne. The building carrying his name has hosted a college football game three times, and Notre Dame is the designated home team in the state of Wisconsin for the third of them. The game was supposed to happen in 2020 before the pandemic wiped it out, so this is six years of buildup arriving on a Sunday in September.

Notre Dame is opening the season ranked higher than it has to start any year since 2006. Marcus Freeman is 43-14 across four seasons with a title-game appearance already on the resume, and this group leads the country in returning production. C.J. Carr is back for a second year as the starter, and the 2026 Notre Dame roster is as loaded as any Irish squad to take the field since the late-great Lou Holtz romaded the sidelines. Holtz will be on the sideline in spirit with the Irish wearing “LOU” stickers on their helmets to honor the former Irish coach who passed away earlier this year.

The defense should be the best unit Freeman has had, with Leonard Moore anchoring a secondary that ought to make Wisconsin’s passing game irrelevant by the second quarter.

The one place to keep your eyes early is the offensive line. Will Black makes his first career start at left tackle, Anthonie Knapp moves inside to left guard after spending all 27 games of his career outside, and Guerby Lambert shifts from right guard to right tackle. Ashton Craig stayed at center. Right guard is still unsettled, with Sullivan Absher and Styles Prescod carrying an “or” next to their names and Freeman declining to name a winner. That’s four line spots in flux against a Wisconsin front that was the strength of a bad team last year. Wisconsin, meanwhile, is a program in trouble. Luke Fickell has gone seven wins, then five, then four, and last year’s offense was one of the two or three worst in the FBS. He brought in 34 transfers and a new quarterback in Colton Joseph and is hoping the roster looks unrecognizable enough to save his job. There’s a version of Sunday where that unfamiliarity works in Wisconsin’s favor for a quarter or so. There is not a realistic version where it holds up for four.

Both teams are in alternate uniforms. Notre Dame is going with an Acme Packers-inspired look, Wisconsin in all red.
