S2E33: Breaking Down Notre Dame’s Missed Opportunities Vs. UNLV and Wondering Where the Play Action Is

Notre Dame beat UNLV by 23 points last weekend, but the Irish offense had a chance to put up 70 points and ended up leaving a lot of points on the field. Frank and Greg talk about some of the frustrating aspects of the game and look ahead to Syracuse. They discussed.

  • The lack of play action despite Drew Pyne excelling at it
  • Missed opportunities for the offense
  • The quarterback position moving forward and the need for a grad transfer
  • Notre Dame’s jeykl/hyde defense
  • Red zone woes on both sides of the ball
  • Lack of RPOs this year versus other years
  • Tommy Rees’s role in the offensive struggles
  • Audric Estime’s fumbles
  • Philadelphia sports keeping Frank calm and upbeat this fall

    Happy trails, Brian Mason.
Thank you for a great job, do enjoy the wonderful weather down south.

Wow Pyne just got crushed. Bring in Angeli

    davidOCT 29, 2022 · 2:47PM

I can’t imagine how far beyond frustrated Angelli must be right now.

Great ABC stat….Syracuse is 1-89 when down by 17.
    See that’s just good marketing:
You’re not watching an unwatchable game. ….you’re watching an ‘almost never’ event.

  3. davidOCT 29, 2022 · 2:12PM

Well…..I’ve seen Freeman say things on the sideline, and show occasional emotion. That’s good.
But Pyne is just plain bad. And Rees leaving him in the game is really bad.
And having backs run the ball has actually become a thing….and that’s always good.

But the SEC has no reason for concern here.
Better football, better crowds, much better show.

    JeffOCT 29, 2022 · 2:23PM

I was going to say something similar but less flattering about Pyne but you pretty much summed it up. My main concern is having to watch Pyne run the show in 23 and 24. The upside to that likely scenario is I will become more familiar with SEC football as Notre Dame becomes unwatchable.

    davidOCT 29, 2022 · 2:41PM

The Syracuse back-up seems to know what ND usually does for someone’s Heisman aspirations.
And Pyne seems very happy to help make a kid’s dream come true.

    PeteOCT 29, 2022 · 2:59PM

Amen. Pyne is really bad. We win this game going away with a really good quarterback.

    davidOCT 29, 2022 · 3:09PM

Well…..with a half-decent QB, Rees calls more pass plays and we just never get to see this fabulous running game.

Even a shit show can have unintended positive takeaways.

Sure sounds like I missed out on a good game. Damn you, Peacock !!
