Ashton White Commits to Notre Dame

Notre Dame picked up its second commitment in as many days on Tuesday when cornerback Ashton White out of Maryland became the third cornerback to become a member of Notre Dame’s class of 2015.

Prior to committing to Notre Dame, White picked up offers from the likes of Virginia, Iowa, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Ohio Sate, and Maryland. White was actually a one time commitment to Virginia Tech very early on but once he received his Notre Dame offer, it did not take him long to jump at the chance to become the latest member of the #ShamrockSoldiers15.
Notre Dame now has three commitments at the cornerback position with White joining Shaun Crawford and Nick Coleman and possibly ending Notre Dame’s recruiting at the position unless one of the elite of the elite corners wants to jump on board. White’s commitment gives the trio some more height and flexibility. 247 Sports rates White as the 43rd rated “athlete” in the class of 2015 and at 5’11”, White is just a bit shorter than Coleman but a full two inches taller than Crawford.
Overall, Notre Dame now has five defensive backs in the class of 2015 with the three corners in addition to safeties Prentice McKinney and Nicco Fertitta.
With their 2nd commitment in two days, Notre Dame now has 16 commitments in this year’s class with half of them coming since the beginning of June. The flurry of commitments has included defensive linemen Brandon Tiassum, Elijah Taylor, and Micah Dew Treadway; all three corners Crawford, Coleman, and now White; running back Josh Adams who just committed on Monday; and kicker Justin Yoon.
Notre Dame has the chance to add more – potentially a lot more – tomorrow as well with elite linebackers Justin Hilliard and Jashon Cornell and wide receiver Miles Boykin all scheduled to announce their college decisions on Wednesday. Of the three announcing tomorrow Boykin looks the most likely right now, but if Notre Dame were to somehow land two more commitments tomorrow, this class would receive a huge boost.
It wasn’t all good news for Notre Dame on Tuesday though. Travis Waller, a 4-star quarterback who looked like Notre Dame’s best option to replace the decommitted Blake Barnett, ended his recruitment by pledging to Oregon without ever visiting Notre Dame.

BK has 2 more years to have the program where it should be. If he doesnt
good by. Personally, I dont think the recruiting is as bad as some seem to
think and everything will be fine. With the schedule this year and lack of
experience on the defense I think next year is when they will be a playoff
contender.
If we are getting these 3 stars because the coaches really like them, that’s fine, bring them on. However, if we are taking these kids because we can’t get the players we want (Jashon Cornell, Justin Hilliard), then I have concerns.
Kaveree Russell ND’s best corner was a running back. Not even ranked as a 3 star corner. Eifert was a 3 star recruit. Again, if you are going to quote stars as a barometer of a programs talent then at least understand the how they come up with the rankings. There are plenty of 3 stars that get taken in the first round. Luke Kukley was a 3 star ND passed on because he wasn’t that highly rated. Coach the kids up and make them first rounders, I don’t care about stars.
Who cares how many stars a kid has? If the coaches see something they like, and coach them up, what’s it matter? Coaching kids up > how many stars they have imo.
Niles Sykes out at ND, he is searching for a different fit. Doesn’t anyone honor the LOI.
It’s still early in the process. If ND has a big season, BK and staff will have a chance to flip a select few of the 4 and 5 star recruits. But I agree with Mike that this is as of now an underwhelming class taken as a whole. Of course only the future will tell how good or not this class really is.
We got spurned again by two 4 star and one 5 star recruits just in the last day or so. As of yet, ND has no one ranked inside the Rivals top 100 and they only have 3 or 4 spots left. This is a concerning trend that so far has gone unsolved.
Another 3 star recruit committed while a 4-star QB who they thought they had a shot with and needed went to Oregon. Not a good trade off, in my opinion. I wish this kid well but he’s the type of kid you could’ve offered later in the process if you needed him. This recruiting class has been a disappointment thus far and that’s assuming none of their precious few non 3 star recruits decommit.

Stop quarreling, kids. On 2d-thought, don’t. Homogeneity is so right-wing. I am scared, personally. BK is losing his recruiting-touch, IMHO. Or is it really a “RKG-phenominon”? (if they’re not here, we don’t want ’em anyway)
